"(KM Sinabung) is ready to be used by ministries and institution (officials) as well as media crew that need accommodation during the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo," Vice President of Commercial Passenger and Supporting Business at PT Pelni Berryl A. Insanul Firdaus remarked here on Saturday.
PT Pelni has been assigned by the Ministry of Transportation to provide "floating accommodation" to support the 42nd ASEAN Summit activities from May 6 to 12, 2023.
"Guests staying at KM Sinabung are free of charge," Firdaus said.
KM Sinabung has 508 rooms that can accommodate 1,906 people, and its economy deck can accommodate 1,396 passengers.
The ship has supporting facilities such as toilets, prayer rooms, polyclinics, restaurants, minimarkets, and WiFi corners to serve guests staying on board.
"As of today (Saturday), 796 people have registered through the State Secretariat Ministry. They are from ministries, institutions, and foreign media," he said.
The Transportation Ministry has written to the State Secretariat Ministry regarding the deployment of KM Sinabung as an alternative accommodation for the ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo.
In a letter signed by the Transportation Ministry's secretary general, Novie Riyanto R., the facilities provided are room only, without meals, for summit delegates and non-delegates.
PT Pelni informed that it will increase the WiFi bandwidth at KM Sinabung to support media activities and publications.
"Pelni is striving to provide good service so that the guests can be comfortable and get a different experience while staying on board KM Sinabung," Firdaus said.
