Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has received registration files for House of Representatives (DPR RI) candidate names from Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) for the 2024 General Elections, making it the first party to do so.

PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu handed over the registration files to KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari at the KPU office in Jakarta on Monday.

"We will process (the registration files), and our first step is to examine whether the documents are complete," Asy'ari stated.

KPU officials will promptly process the files to ensure that the notification on the completeness of the registration files can be received by the party on Monday, he affirmed.

He stated that if the KPU found the documents incomplete, then PKS would still have time to complete them before the deadline for candidate registration on May 14 at 11:59 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Syaikhu expressed gratitude to the electoral commission officials for welcoming his party to the KPU office.

"Praise be to God. Today, I am officially submitting the necessary documents to register DPR RI election candidates with the KPU chairperson. We express our gratitude for the warm welcome from the KPU," he stated.

He also expressed hope that the 2024 Elections would be peaceful, fair, and accepted by all voters.

On April 30, the KPU announced that registration for DPR RI candidates would take place simultaneously with the registration of provincial, district, and city-level legislatures and Regional Representative Council (DPD) members from May 1 to May 14, 2023.
