"You can get better job, good job, great job, but if there are only 100 vacancies (for such job), it will not solve the issues of more than 100 million people, who need jobs with (good) quality, which is why, despite all the struggle, in terms of the Indonesian political context, for the first time in Indonesian history, President Jokowi pushed for the Omnibus Law," she remarked.
The minister delivered the statement during the Pathways Towards Economic Security: Indonesia Poverty Assessment hosted by the World Bank here on Tuesday.
During its course in history, Indonesia never had any type of Omnibus Law in place akin to the one established by the government, she pointed out.
However, the head of state, through his cabinet, pushed for transformation in the investment sector by implementing the Omnibus Law in their formulation of laws, Indrawati remarked.
She highlighted that the social safety net cannot create jobs, as jobs can only come into being through investment. The investment indicated by the minister was not that of big projects, such as vehicles' manufacturing.
"Jobs are created by many investments, by many people, all the way to the grassroots," she stated.
She drew attention to the complicated process to establish a company for productive purposes due to restrictions imposed by several regulations.
"Creating job opportunities is maybe something that we can talk about so easily. However, in this case, (we have to) admit that the Indonesian government, ranging from the central, regional, and even to the village scopes, create problems instead of solutions," the minister affirmed.
Hence, she said President Joko Widodo had stated that everyone must pursue reformation in the investment climate, considering their actual intention is to establish space for Indonesians to create things.
Minister Indrawati opined that she viewed the Omnibus Law as one that simplifies all regulations and allows for easier job creation.
"This is why it turns out to be something that creates an ecosystem for Indonesians, enabling them to create job opportunities," she said.
