As two institutions that have a commitment to community-based fishery development, BRSDM and MSU have agreed to establish a partnership in developing fishery community education, training and dissemination method.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry's Marine Affairs and Fishery Research and Human Resources Agency (BRSDM) is cooperating with Michigan State University (MSU), the United States, to develop human resources and strengthen fisheries governance.

"This cooperation is our effort to strengthen the human resource development and fishery governance strengthening program," BRSDM's Chief I Nyoman Radiarta said in an official statement released on Wednesday.

In addition, the scope of the cooperation executed by the two institutions will encompass six areas, he informed.

The first is academic cooperation, such as undergraduate program scholarships; lecturer, student, and academic staff exchanges; and training programs.

The second concerns education and technology management for creating a comfortable and conducive learning environment.

The third is community-based fishery management for sustainable fishery development using innovative and green technology.

The fourth is the development of academic curriculums and modules that answer to the demand in the fisheries industry for skilled, competitive, and environmentally conscious graduates.

The fifth is the exchange of knowledge, information, and experience via integrated partnership modules with private entities, businesses, and other stakeholders.

The sixth concerns other areas of cooperation that each party agrees upon.

"As two institutions that have a commitment to community-based fishery development, BRSDM and MSU have agreed to establish a partnership in developing fishery community education, training and dissemination method," Radiarta explained.

The ministry's cooperation with MSU aligns with the human resource development vision outlined in the instruction of the Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono.

Earlier, the minister called for education governance and human resource transformation in the ministry to adapt to national and global needs.
