"In 2023, our focus is on QRIS, which we will continue to expand for micro-businesses as well as for cash withdrawals, transfers, and cash deposits (QRIS TUNTAS)," he shared during a meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Monday.
QRIS is a national standard for QR code-based payments in Indonesia. It was introduced by the central bank in 2019 and has since become the most popular method of payment for goods and services in Indonesia.
According to Warjiyo, the central bank will also expand the number of BI-FAST participants and other debit services, as well as direct debit, bulk credit, and request for payment.
To achieve regional payment connectivity, BI will continue to promote the use of QRIS as a digital payment method in other countries, such as Singapore, the Philippines, and India.
Indonesia has already established cooperation for the use of QRIS with Malaysia and Thailand.
The adoption of QRIS as a digital payment method is part of BI's policy mix to enhance the digitalization of payment system.
Furthermore, Warjiyo has emphasized the promotion and implementation of the Indonesia Credit Card (KKI) for the government transactions to improve the efficiency of government spending.
KKI aims to facilitate government transactions and spending through the state budget (APBN) and regional budget (APBD).
Launched in May 2023, KKI enables financial transactions for both the central and local governments with a zero percent fee for the government and more efficient fees for merchants.
"President (Joko Widodo) and I recently launched the Indonesia Credit Card for the government segment, which can be used for government spending, both central and regional levels," he stated.
According to him, KKI offers lower fees for merchants or partners compared to commercial credit cards.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of National Development Planning and head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Suharso Monoarfa, and other officials, also attended the meeting with the DPR.
