Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo said that the government has awarded the sports achievement bonus in appreciation of the Indonesian contingent's feat of winning 87 gold medals, 80 silver medals, and 109 bronze medals at the games.
"To present the achievement bonus to athletes, coaches, and assistant coaches, the government allocated Rp289 billion," the minister said while accompanying President Joko Widodo, who received a visit from Indonesian SEA Games athletes at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.
Indonesia's medal tally at the SEA Games exceeded the target of 69 gold medals set by President Widodo, Minister Ariotedjo noted.
Furthermore, the achievement also surpassed the country's achievement in the previous edition of the multi-sport event in Vietnam, when it won 69 gold medals, 90 silver medals, and 81 bronze medals.
At this year's SEA Games, the Indonesian contingent emerged as the overall champion in eight sports, including badminton with a medal tally of 5 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals; and weightlifting with 5 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.
Each athlete in the individual sports category was awarded Rp525 million (around US$35,300) for a gold medal, Rp315 million (around US$21,180) for a silver medal, and Rp157.5 million (around US$11,800) for a bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the government gave Rp420 million (around US$28,240) to gold medalists, Rp252 million (around US$17,000) to silver medalists, and 126 million rupiah (around US$8,475) to bronze medalists in doubles sports.
The awarding of sports honors was in accordance with the regulations outlined in Article 99 Paragraph 1 of Law No. 1 of 2022 on Sports and Article 2 Paragraph 1 of the Presidential Regulation No. 44 of 2014 regarding sports achievements awarding.
