"The case of the late Priestess Flo has garnered great attention and demand from the public, who pushed for transparency and proof of the cause of death of late Priestess Flo," Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga stated according to a statement received here on Tuesday.
The priestess was allegedly a victim of domestic violence that lead to her death. Currently, an investigation is being pursued after her body was exhumed by the National Police Force's Automatic Finger Print Identification System team and Maluku Police Department on May 4, 2023, in a bid to seek legal certainty.
The autopsy process will take nearly four to eight weeks in order to obtain an accurate result.
Minister Puspayoga lauded the teams and regional officials, who have helped in the progress into investigation of the case as well as the autopsy of Priestess Flo.
Puspayoga noted that her administration commended the Maluku Police Department's immediate measure in addressing cases of violence against women and children, one of which included the late priestess' case.
"This is the form of the state's presence in protecting and fulfilling the rights of women and children, who were victims of violence, for which we must assure that law enforcement proceedings are to be real and pursued consistently," she emphasized.
The minister drew attention to the issues that often hindered the progress in resolution of the cases of violence against women and children, such as unresponsive legal proceedings that disregarded the victim's perspective.
In a bid to offer legal certainty to women and children experiencing violence, the ministry collaborates with the National Police Commission to ensure that legal proceedings, particularly in the investigation process, can go in accordance with the applicable law, she said.
