"The South Kalimantan provincial government is finalizing preparations to welcome the national state defense camp participants," he said.
The camp will be held from July 10–16, 2023, at Kiram Park and Sultan Adam Great Forest Park in South Kalimantan.
Anwar said the number of campers who have registered for the camp has reached 1,183. They hail from 17 provinces of Indonesia, he added.
He expressed the hope that the camp will run smoothly, as the local weather has been dynamic recently.
Meanwhile, chair of the committee, Agus Salim, said that registrations for the camp have been closed because the quota is full.
He informed that other preparations, such as the provision of mangrove tree seedlings for the planting activity at Sultan Adam Forest, have been completed.
"All our preparations are targeted to be completed this week," he said.
Furthermore, his side has launched the official mascot of the 2023 National State Defense Camp, which has been named "Si ATAN."
The provincial government chose the long-nosed monkey (bekantan) as the mascot as it is endemic to Kalimantan.
The construction and readiness of the museum and library as well as other facilities in Kiram Park and Sultan Adam Forest are also targeted to be completed this week.
"The preparation is in the final stage, with the remaining 15 percent," he said.
The camp participants are scouts aged 11–15 years.
In addition, the camp will feature activities involving the military and the police, traditional games, and a Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) night.
