The training covered several aspects, with the main focus being special financial investigation, said Acting Deputy of Information and Data at KPK Eko Marjono in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The KPK often encounters financial cases involving corporations and individuals, he said.
"Experience from ICAC Hong Kong will be beneficial in the implementation of KPK's duties. Not only capacity building, but this activity can also be expanded with joint investigations related to asset recovery," he explained.
In 2019, the KPK established the Forensic Accounting (FA) Unit to assist investigators in handling corruption cases, specifically by encouraging asset recovery efforts.
To provide accurate and efficient analysis, the FA unit uses machine learning technology to improve case handling effectiveness.
As a result, the need to develop analysts' skills in using machine learning has become increasingly important to support the task of analyzing large amounts of data.
Marjono expects that training participants, such as investigators and public prosecutors, will be able to improve their forensic accounting analysis skills and learn the analysis process, which includes gathering information and data, evaluating, analyzing, and developing an adequate system in ICAC Hong Kong.
They can learn from ICAC Hong Kong's experience in handling various high-profile fraud and corruption cases involving corporations, as well as the use of machine learning to handle these cases, he said.
On the occasion, Senior Investigator of the Operations Department at ICAC Hong Kong Joan Wong stated that since its founding in 1974, the ICAC has adopted three approaches to fighting corruption: strong law enforcement, systemic prevention, and comprehensive education.
Through these approaches, the ICAC has been able to address both the symptoms and the root cause of corruption.
In addition to law enforcement, the ICAC places equal emphasis on public education and systemic prevention to maintain the culture of integrity among members of society, thereby eliminating corruption from its breeding ground.
Through the "ethics for all" approach, which involves forming partnerships with the public and private sectors, ICAC helps to strengthen corruption prevention capacity and spread the anti-corruption message to society.
ICAC was established with the goal of educating the public about corruption and gaining public support for corruption eradication, Wong noted.
The activity is being held for three days until Thursday. Some 40 people, including prosecutors, investigators, officers from the Labuksi Directorate, Electronic Evidence Laboratory, Information Processing Analyst Unit, Forensic Accountancy Unit, and Commission and Institution Network Guidance Directorate, are participating in the activity.
The training materials include Investigation Planning at ICAC, Investigation Process, and Corruption Investigation Case Study. ICAC Hong Kong's Forensic Accountant Natalie Li is also a speaker at the event.
