Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has reminded all Indonesians that a peaceful 2024 General Election is the collective responsibility of all parties.

He divided all parties into five elements: general election organizers, general election participants, the media, the public and public figures, as well as security officials.

"There are a number of moving elements that are responsible for ensuring a peaceful 2024 General Election," he stated in a press release issued on Thursday.

"One is the general election organizers, namely KPU (General Elections Commission) and its officials, Bawaslu (General Election Supervisory Agency) and its officials, including the government that supports the budget and others," he remarked.

Karnavian delivered his statement while attending the "Senandung Pemilu Damai" (Melody of Peaceful Elections) event held by the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs on Tuesday.

Regarding the second element, Karnavian said that in order to ensure a peaceful 2024 General Election, the participants must be mentally prepared for either a win or loss.

For the third element, the media plays an important role in affecting politics to maintain a peaceful election. Concerning the fourth element, the minister said that high participation will determine strong legitimacy from the public.

Meanwhile, it is the security officials' responsibility to maintain an orderly condition, he stated.

On the occasion, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD affirmed that the elections do not only belong to the government but also all Indonesians.

The "Senandung Pemilu Damai" event is intended to push the determination of all parties in realizing a peaceful general election within the scope of their respective roles, he added.

"This is important, and peace comes from us," he affirmed.
