We must be able to manage this industry professionallyJakarta (ANTARA) - The National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) has said that it will assist victims who bought fraudulent Coldplay music concert tickets.
"What happened is not only a lesson for event organizers, but also for football match (organizers). There is a business here that must be managed," BPKN Chairperson Rizal Edy Halim said here on Thursday.
He expressed the hope that the recent cases of music concert or festival ticket scams will serve as valuable lessons for regulators, too.
He said that BPKN has discussed and conveyed the agency's investigation results on the fraudulent ticket sales to the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.
"Making entertainment and tourism a flagship industry is allowed as long as the mechanisms, regulations, and post-activities are prepared," he explained.
He said that regulators also need to prepare for any possible risks.
"If not, when a problem occurs, everyone will find a scapegoat," he added.
Music concerts are a part of the entertainment industry and must be managed professionally so that unwanted things do not happen, he said.
"We can no longer think of events such as music concerts or festivals as mere entertainment. We must be able to manage this industry professionally," he added.
Every stage of an entertainment event, from ticket pre-sales, ticket sales, to post-activities, must be conducted professionally.
"That way, we can reduce problems, such as fraud in our society. Otherwise, we will continue to face the same problems," he cautioned.
He said that the implementation of music festivals overseas is regulated very neatly and strictly.
"They treat entertainment events as a business industry and so should it be in Indonesia," he added.
Earlier, BPKN had opened a complaint channel for victims who purchased fraudulent Coldplay tickets.
The British band's music concert is scheduled to take place at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Stadium, Jakarta, on November 15, 2023.
