Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesia Regional Representative Board (DPD RI) La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti affirmed that the DPD RI welcomed the People's Consultative Assembly's (MPR's) will to make improvements and refinements to the state system.

"As a way out to provide space for this nation and country to realize dreams together, to have a shared determination to accelerate the realization of the ideals of the birth of this country," La Nyalla stated while delivering a speech at the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD in 2023 at the Nusantara Building in the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta, Wednesday.

According to La Nyalla, the DPD RI views that global change will drive all countries to further bolster their sovereignty, especially in order to face future challenges.

Joint determination, cooperation, fighting spirit, and positive contribution are deemed necessary in order to strengthen national sovereignty. Moreover, the involvement of all elements of the nation is also required, without any exceptions or conditions.

"For this reason, a more perfect constitutional system and state system is needed that is able to provide answers to future challenges and threats," he remarked.

La Nyalla explained that a good state system is one that is capable of holding together all elements of the nation. Hence, the nature of people's sovereignty is a clear benchmark in the Indonesian Constitution.

"In the end, this nation will get stronger because the owners of sovereignty, which are the people, have the right to participate in determining the direction of the nation's future," La Nyalla emphasized.

A state system formulated by the founders of the nation is known as the Pancasila democratic system and the Pancasila economic system.

"A separate system, the original Indonesian system, which does not adopt any country's system," he stated.

During his speech, La Nyalla elaborated that the DPD RI had taken into account the public's aspirations regarding the need for Indonesia to review the current state system.

Those aspirations came from all elements of the nation, right from community and religious organization figures, retired military and police officers, kings and sultans of Nusantara, to academics and students.

After examining the aspirations, through the Plenary Session of the DPD RI on July 14, 2023, the DPD RI decided to build collective awareness of all elements of the nation to re-implement the Pancasila principles and state system that are perfected and strengthened.

"This improvement and strengthening needs to be done as an effort to prevent the repetition of past imperfect practices," La Nyalla stressed.
