Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), through the Directorate General of Housing, stated that the number of units built under the One Million Houses Program (PSR) reached 634,132 until August 15, 2023.

"From the data of the PUPR Ministry, as of August 15, 2023, PSR achievements have been recorded as having reached 634,132 units consisting of 559,393 low-income community housing units (MBR) and 74,739 non-MBR housing units," Director General of Housing of the Ministry of PUPR Iwan Suprijanto noted in his statement at Jakarta on Monday.

Suprijanto expressed optimism that people would be able to enjoy independence by owning and being able to avail more decent and healthier housing.

The PSR, launched by President Joko Widodo on April 29, 2015, is a pro-people program and must be continued on account of the large housing needs of the community.

The PSR is also considered to be capable of improving people's welfare as well as opening jobs for the community, so that it can boost the competitiveness of the Indonesian nation to make it at par with other developed countries.

"The One Million Houses Program is an important part of 'Indonesia Maju' because it encourages all parties to collaborate in providing decent housing for all Indonesian people," Suprijanto affirmed.

In commemoration of the 2023 National Housing Day (Hapernas), Suprijanto noted that his side also urged the local governments and stakeholders in the housing sector, such as ministries and institutions, housing developers, banks, private sectors, and community, to play an active role in building houses that meet the healthy and livable housing requirements.

In addition, his side encourages the role of the Housing Provision Implementation Agency (BP2P) in the process of collecting data on housing construction in the regions.

Based on data recapitulation of housing construction conducted by the Directorate of General and Commercial Housing of the Directorate General of Housing, the number of MBR houses from the Ministry of PUPR reached 250,860 units; other ministries and agencies, 15,784 units; local government, 24,900 units; non-FLPP developers, 241,599 units; CSR housing, 954 units; and community, 25,296 units.

"For non-MBR houses, there were 74,739 units consisting of 33,131 units built by developers and 41,608 units by the community. We hope that by the end of this year, the number of house constructions can continue to increase, considering that the community's housing needs are increasing," Suprijanto stated.
