Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has informed that his ministry is handling the runway project for the VVIP (Very Very Important Person) Airport in the national capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

Hadimuljono said here on Wednesday that the task of constructing the airport has been assigned to the PUPR Ministry and the Ministry of Transportation.

"We share the assignment, where the PUPR Ministry will build the runway, toll road access to the VVIP Airport, aprons, and taxiways. Meanwhile, the Transportation Ministry will handle the construction of the terminal," he said.

He revealed that the entire design of the VVIP Airport, including the runway, has been prepared by the Ministry of Transportation.

"All the designs came from the Ministry of Transportation," he said.

He also confirmed that the auction for the VVIP Airport runway project will be held in October 2023.

"The (auction) will be held in October this year," he said.

In accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 31 of 2023 concerning the Acceleration of the Construction and Operation of VVIP Airport in Nusantara National Capital, the President has appointed the ministers of transportation and PUPR to lead the project.

VVIP Airport in Nusantara will be used to serve government activities. The VVIP terminal area will span 2 thousand square meters (sq.m), the VIP terminal will be 5 thousand sq.m, and the runway will measure 3,000 x 485 sq.m.

The site for the airport is located about 25 kilometers from Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan, and about 107 km from Samarinda Airport.

The funding for the construction and operation of the airport is being sourced from the state budget (APBN) or other legitimate sources in accordance with the laws and regulations.

The design of the VVIP Airport will reflect Kalimantan culture and follow a green concept.
