Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi called on all people working in the public relations field to collaborate to support the holding of various crucial national agendas, including the upcoming 43rd ASEAN Summit.

"I would like to invite all public relations workers to support the ASEAN Summit that will take place next week," he remarked while opening a convention on Indonesian public relations, as cited from a press release received here on Saturday (September 2).

In his speech, the minister reiterated that in its chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year, Indonesia carries the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth".

In relation to the theme, Minister Setiadi affirmed that public relations workers in Indonesia have a strategic role in echoing the optimism of ASEAN in becoming one of the world's centers of economic growth.

The 43rd ASEAN Summit itself will be held from September 5-7 in Jakarta. At least 22 countries and nine international organizations will send their delegates to participate in the upcoming summit, which will be the second summit to be held under Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship this year.

During the convention, on behalf of President Joko Widodo, the minister also encouraged public relations workers to actively participate in the efforts to maintain the conduciveness in the digital space, in the hopes of realizing peaceful 2024 General Elections.

"Next year, we will welcome a festival of democracy, an essential agenda that can determine the direction of the nation in the future. One of the keys to the success of this agenda is a healthy process of information exchange in the digital space," he noted.

He further said that the advancement of the nation requires togetherness and persistence, adding that public relations workers must be able to properly execute their role amid technological disruptions and the increasingly massive flow of information.

"We would like to appeal to all public relations workers to strengthen collaboration and unite for the sake of advancing Indonesia," he stated.
