Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Central Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), Ubaidillah, has appealed to television and radio broadcasters to create neutral content to support peaceful general elections in 2024.

By neutral content, he was referring to content that is not biased, but is balanced and can help keep the situation in society conducive.

“(I) appeal to broadcasting companies not to broadcast certain public figures in their content to keep the 2024 General Elections democratic, peaceful, friendly, in accordance with the peaceful 2024 General Elections vision,” he said when contacted by ANTARA on Thursday.

He explained that to create a safe and productive space for broadcasting ahead of the elections, his commission is coordinating with relevant parties, such as the Press Council, the General Elections Commission (KPU), and the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

The coordination is being carried out through the task force for supervision and monitoring of reporting, broadcasting, and campaign advertisements of the 2024 General Elections, which was formed in February 2023.

“For action related to broadcasting content that has the potential to violate (rules), the KPI will take action by coordinating with the task force,” he said.

Earlier, Communication and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi asked television and radio broadcasting players to support efforts to realize peaceful general elections in 2024.

“We aim to help the country realize a good and conducive atmosphere for the holding of the 2024 General Elections by echoing the narratives on peaceful elections," he said here on Tuesday (September 12, 2023).

The Communication and Information Ministry has allocated a special budget to manage and disseminate public information on peaceful election narratives.

The ministry has carried out several programs in connection with this, including a literacy program for first-time voters and a collaborative program for handling election-related misinformation in the digital space.
