Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government plans to open free vehicle emission testing services at a number of bus terminals as part of efforts to improve the air quality in Jakarta.

"Emission testing for private vehicles will be expanded to more accessible areas," said Ani Ruspitawati, spokesperson for Jakarta Air Pollution Control Task Force, on Friday.

The free emission testing is scheduled to be opened at the Pulogebang, Pulogadung, Kalideres, and Kampung Rambutan terminals.

Ruspitawati did not provide a specific time frame for when the service will be open or which vehicles will be targeted.

She noted that 1,063,595 four-wheeled vehicles and 110,650 two-wheeled vehicles are recorded to have carried out emission testing.

There are 333 workshops that test the emissions of four-wheeled vehicles and 108 workshops that test the emissions of two-wheeled vehicles.

To increase public awareness of the importance of vehicle emissions testing, the Jakarta government will continue to add more workshops that offer emission testing services.

She expressed hope that the provision of emission testing services at bus terminals would make it easier for the community to carry out the tests.

"This is an effort to encourage more vehicles of people to carry out emission tests," she said.

So far, there are ten parking locations in Jakarta that have implemented the highest parking fee policy for vehicles that have not passed or have not undergone emission tests.

The parking fee disincentive policy has been implemented based on Jakarta Governor's Regulation Number 66 of 2020 on Motorized Vehicle Exhaust Emission Tests.
