I think it (the construction) is still on target
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that construction of the Presidential Palace in the new capital city Nusantara is still running in accordance with the government's set plan.

"I looked at the schedule and target. I think it (the construction) is still on target," Jokowi remarked after reviewing the construction of the Presidential Palace in the Nusantara area, East Kalimantan, on Friday, according to a statement of the Presidential Secretariat.

He emphasized that there are no problems regarding the budget for the construction of several basic infrastructures in the new capital city area.

"Especially for the palace, ministries' (buildings), for basic infrastructures, there are no problems," he clarified.

President Jokowi affirmed that the government will continue to encourage the construction of several infrastructures of the private sector and businesses. It includes the construction of hospitals, universities, malls, and restaurants.

"We will encourage all, so that a crowd emerges that will certainly bring the Nusantara City to life," he remarked.

On that occasion, the president planted weeping fig trees (Ficus Benjamina) in the Presidential Palace area.

"Especially for these two twin weeping figs, I think these are a symbol of majesty," he remarked.

He expressed hope that other plants would be planted at the earliest after the rains fell in the new capital area, such as grass on the field for the Independence Day ceremony, plants endemic to Kalimantan, and flowers specially designed for the Nusantara Presidential Palace.

"Everything will be green, and especially for the palace, the colors of the flowers will be red and white (Indonesia's national flag colors)," he stated.

The president remarked that the field of the Presidential Palace in Nusantara was twice the area of the Palace in Jakarta. In fact, the field can accommodate up to eight thousand people for the 2024 Independence Day anniversary commemoration ceremony.
