Jakarta (ANTARA) - At least 22,428 train tickets worth Rp2.6 billion (US$166,674) were sold at KAI Expo 2023, organized by state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), which was attended by 11,556 visitors.

The event, which was themed "Crafting Your Journey," took place for three days from September 29, 2023, to October 1 at the Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta.

"It is hoped that the holding of KAI Expo 2023 can provide a stimulus to the public so that rail transportation services and the tourism sector continue to grow," EVP of Corporate Secretary at KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji said in a statement released in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He informed that the favorite destinations visitors bought tickets to included Gambir-Surabaya Pasar Turi, Gambir-Yogyakarta, and Surabaya Pasar Turi-Gambir.

During the event, KAI sold tickets at special prices, with tickets for luxury trains priced at just Rp300 thousand (US$19), executive class Rp150 thousand (US$9), business class Rp100 thousand (US$6), and economy class Rp50 thousand (US$3) for departures from October 1 to October 31.

The most number of tickets sold at the discounted rates were for Jakarta-Yogyakarta pp (round-trip), Jakarta-Surabaya pp, Jakarta-Semarang pp, Jakarta-Bandung pp, and Jakarta-Malang pp.

KAI Group, together with its partners, also held a travel industry exhibition as well as promotional activities for special integration tourism packages combining travel by train and other modes of transportation and offered special prices for travel to attractive tourist destinations during the expo.

KAI Expo 2023 was held to mark National Transportation Day, which falls on September 17 every year and was also a part of KAI's 78th anniversary celebrations. KAI commemorated its anniversary on September 28.

"The KAI Expo 2023 event shows KAI's consistency in making trains the mass transportation of choice for people that is safe, secure, comfortable, and on time," Budiadji said.
