Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology affirmed that the use of information and communication technology (ICT) can help improve the quality of teachers and students.

The ministry's Secretary General, Suharti, remarked that by using technology, teachers can explore their potential at a deeper level to improve the quality of innovative and creative learning for students.

"By utilizing technology, teachers are expected to share innovations with other (teachers) in addition to applying it in their own teaching," she remarked during a public lecture broadcast online here on Monday.

Suharti explained that one of the ministry's efforts to improve teacher competence in utilizing ICT is the Information and Communication Technology-Based Learning Program (PembaTIK).

This program targets teachers in the hopes that they will be able to create teaching materials that are correlated to the Merdeka Curriculum.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, Suharti said, most people are accustomed to using digital platforms, so applying technology in the teaching and learning processes must also be enhanced in order to realize equal distribution of education in Indonesia.

Suharti assessed that the quality of education in the country is still unequal, as some regions have good quality education, while others have poor quality of education.

"The quality of education in Indonesia is unequal. Some are very good, but some are still at the bottom," she pointed out.

Hence, she expressed hope that the PembaTIK program can encourage teachers to continue to innovate and share their knowledge with others in the field of teaching in order to realize equal quality education.

The PembaTIK program is open to teachers at all levels, from early childhood education, elementary school, junior high school, and high school or vocational high school.

Meanwhile, technology-based education learning is one of the main goals of the Merdeka Curriculum.
