Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), which is managed by PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I), handled 49,344 passengers from October 11 and 16, 2023, during the Mandalika MotoGP event.

AP I pegged the daily average of passengers during the period at 8,224, or 23 percent higher than the daily average of 6,698 passengers per day in October 2023.

From October 11 to 16, the airport also handled 560 aircraft movements.

"The MotoGP event at the Mandalika Circuit is a fascinating attraction that has a multiplier effect on the rise in passenger traffic at Lombok Airport," AP I president director Faik Fahmi said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Fahmi informed that the peak of passenger arrivals at Lombok Airport was recorded on October 13, with the number of passengers reaching 8,819 of whom 5,300 arrived in Lombok.

Meanwhile, the peak of passenger departures was witnessed on October 16 at 10,351, with 6,571 passengers departing from Lombok.

MotoGP racers, crew, and officials flew out on October 16 on 2 planes: Garuda Indonesia GA7080 at 10:35 a.m. Central Indonesia Time (WITA) and Malaysia Airlines MH8457 at 12:29 p.m. Central Indonesia Time.

Both flights left for Melbourne, Australia, where the next series will take place on October 20–22. The Phillip Island Circuit will host the next races.

AP I, through its subsidiary Angkasa Pura Logistics (APL), also played a key role in the provision of logistics services for the teams competing in the championship, in addition to passenger services.

APL will also handle the loading and clearance of cargo for the next destination.

Cargo flight departures are scheduled to begin with 2 flights to Melbourne on Tuesday, followed by 2 flights to Melbourne and 1 flight to Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (October 18).

"We also thank all stakeholder agencies for their good effort in ensuring the process ran well. The spectators should be left with a lasting impression by all airport services, which should encourage tourism to Lombok and airport passengers in the future," Fahmi stated.
