Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo officiated General Agus Subiyanto as Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

General Subiyanto took his oath of office to always be loyal to the 1945 Constitution and carry out all laws and regulations strictly for the sake of the nation and state.

"By God, I swear that in carrying out my duties I will uphold the ethics of the office and work to the best of my ability, with a full sense of responsibility. That I will uphold the soldier's oath," he stated.

The inauguration was carried out based on Presidential Decree Number 102/TNI/2023 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the TNI Commander.

Moreover, President Widodo dismissed and appointed the Advisory Council and the Indonesian Veterans Legion Leaders.

Other attendees at the inauguration were Speaker of the House of Representatives Puan Maharani; Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD; Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto; and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo; Chief of Staff of the Air Force Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo; and Chief of Staff of the Navy Admiral Muhammad Ali were also present.

During the 9th Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI on Tuesday (November 21), the parliament approved Subiyanto as a candidate for TNI Commander as proposed by President Widodo.

The fit and proper test process was earlier conducted by First Commission of the House on November 13 to hear the general's vision and mission.

Subiyanto was the sole candidate for TNI commander to replace Yudo Margono who will retire on November 26.

Subiyanto was earlier appointed as Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army on October 25.
