"I would like to invite all public relations officials to continue to promote the campaign of peaceful elections. It is our shared responsibility to guide the people to prudently exercise their voting rights to make the 2024 General Elections a success," he remarked in Jakarta on Thursday.
The minister then outlined several points of concern that should be echoed by PR officials in relation to the upcoming elections. One of the points is related to the need to remind the people that their voices in the elections are the determining factor to the country's future.
As for the second point, Setiadi encouraged PR officials to guide the people to wisely exercise their rights to vote. Meanwhile, the final point concerns the need for the officials to encourage the people to voice their aspirations without neglecting peace and conduciveness, including in the digital space.
Setiadi remarked that the dissemination of narratives on peaceful elections aimed at increasing the people's participation and fulfilling their rights to vote and be voted.
By spreading such narratives, PR officials can help the Indonesian nation anticipate the spread of the issues of Tribe, Religion, Race and Inter-Groups (SARA) that could lead to discord and polarization among members of the public, he elaborated.
"The narratives are also important to fight hoaxes and keep the digital space safe, peaceful, and comfortable for all people of Indonesia," he emphasized.
In addition to stressing the importance of disseminating the narratives on peaceful 2024 General Elections, Setiadi called on all PR officials to pay special attention to the national priority agendas.
In that context, the minister called on PR officials to help spread information on the multitude of achievements of President Widodo, including those related to the development of Indonesia's future capital city Nusantara, during his two presidential terms.
"I request that all public relations officials collect and compile materials related to the government's achievements within your respective ministries and institutions. I believe that every ministry and institution played a role in delivering the achievements," he told PR officials.
He also alluded to the need for spreading information on Nusantara to build the people's awareness of the efforts being carried out by the government to develop the city, so they can participate in succeeding the development process.
