Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria drew attention to three important aspects that must be taken into account in the use and development of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia.

"The use of AI technology is increasingly showing its potential from various sides. There are at least three aspects that must be considered in the use and development of AI," Patria remarked here on Thursday.

Patria noted that the three key aspects are technology, human capital, and AI governance.

He explained that currently, the highest level of AI development occurred in the information and communication, financial services and insurance, government administration or public service, and defense sectors.

Meanwhile, in terms of human capital, Patria remarked that AI technology has helped 26.7 million workers in Indonesia.

According to the deputy minister, by 2030, AI technology is projected to contribute US$366 billion to the national gross domestic income (GDP) and about US$1 trillion to the entire ASEAN region.

Meanwhile, he pressed for the need for good governance in the use of AI that has various risks.

The deputy minister stated that the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kominfo) has formulated a ministerial circular on AI ethical guidelines.

The circular serves as a general guide for utilization, ethical values, implementation, and responsibility in consulting, analysis, and programming activities involving AI.

Patria emphasized that AI regulation and governance are not only to reduce the risks but also to support businesses developing AI technology in Indonesia.

He noted that the government is keen to create an AI ecosystem that supports technological developments while concurrently reducing potential risks.

"The government's standpoint at this time is to maximize the benefits and minimize the negatives, so that these AI innovations can develop while we mitigate the risks," he stated.
