There are currently many data leakages. Hence, we need to secure them.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) must protect the confidentiality of election data, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin emphasized on Friday.
He made the statement in response to reports of an alleged leak of voter data from the KPU website.
"We regret the leak, therefore, we hope that KPU can really maintain the confidentiality (of electoral data)," the VP said after attending the 3rd National Working Conference of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) here on Friday.
The Vice President said that lately, data leakages have been frequent, which must become a cause for concern for all parties.
"There are currently many data leakages. Hence, we need to secure them," he added.
Earlier on Wednesday (November 29, 2023), KPU said that it is collaborating with a team from the National Police's Directorate of Cybercrime and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to investigate the report of the alleged leak of 2024 election data.
"We are still making sure whether the information is true or not. We are working with the teams from the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), the cybercrime team of the National Police, BIN, and the Ministry of Communication and Informatics," KPU chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari said at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday.
The KPU on Tuesday (November 28) said that it had received information about an alleged data breach by a hacker named "Jimbo," who claimed to have successfully hacked the KPU website and accessed voter data.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, urged the commission to improve the security of DPT data to prevent it from being leaked to support the smooth running of the 2024 elections.
"The security of voters' data must be guaranteed so that our elections can run smoothly, safely and peacefully," she said.
