He and his entourage inspected the preparedness of medical services at the Bulili Public Health Service Center (Puskesmas) and Undata Regional Public Hospital.
"It is good to know that the local health office can provide this puskesmas with consumables for filling cavities. Not every puskesmas is equipped with such consumables," he noted in a written statement from the Ministry of Health on Sunday.
At the puskesmas, Sadikin also reviewed the quality of services offered at the health center's emergency unit, maternal unit, and laboratory.
As a first-level public health care center, a puskesmas plays a role as a spearhead in maintaining people's health, he remarked.
Minister Sadikin then headed to the Undata Regional Public Hospital, renowned for offering various featured services, such as gynecologic oncology, heart surgery, neurosurgery, urology surgery, and kidney disease treatments.
As a national referral hospital, the Undata Hospital must operate with sufficient and proper equipment, facilities, and human resources, he said.
"I hope that Palu residents suffering from stroke, cancer, and kidney problems will be able to acquire treatments right at the Undata Hospital, eliminating the need for them to be transferred to a hospital in Makassar (in South Sulawesi)," he said.
Based on his inspection, he found the number of health workers at the hospital sufficient. However, he urged the hospital to hire more specialist doctors and further augment the competency of its nurses in the hopes of providing the finest services to the people of Palu.
"I think the numbers of doctors and nurses here have been sufficient. The hospital only needs to add more specialist doctors and provide training courses for nurses so they can offer an even higher level of services," he concluded.
