Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) has been stepping up its level of communication with the National Police (Polri) to ensure conduciveness and security ahead of the period of grand campaigns of the 2024 General Elections.

KPU official, August Mellaz, noted that the commission and the police have been intensifying coordination by discussing traffic flow engineering measures during grand campaigns, also known as general meeting campaigns and open campaigns.

"We have been intensively communicating with the police, including to engineer the flow of traffic," Mellaz remarked at the KPU Office, Jakarta, on Friday (January 19).

He then revealed that the KPU is planning to hold a coordination meeting with Polri and each campaign team of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs.

"We might hold a coordination meeting with the candidates' teams and the police in late January 2024," he pointed out.

The period for grand campaigns will last for 21 days, starting on January 21 and concluding on February 10.

The KPU has determined three presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs for the upcoming election, with Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair claiming serial number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair securing number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD contesting as pair number 3.

Presidential and vice presidential candidate pair number 1 has the backing of the National Democratic (NasDem) Party, National Awakening Party (PKB), Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and Ummah Party.

Pair number 2 receives support from the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, Functional Groups (Golkar) Party, National Mandate Party (PAN), Democratic (Demokrat) Party, Crescent Star Party (PBB), Indonesian People's Wave (Gelora) Party, Guardians of Indonesia's Change (Garuda) Party, and Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI).

Meanwhile, Pair number 3 is being endorsed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), United Development Party (PPP), Indonesian Unity (Perindo) Party, and People's Conscience (Hanura) Party.

The overall campaign period began on November 28 last year and will conclude on February 10, 2024. The voting day itself has been scheduled for February 14.
