Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's stance against the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is unacceptable.

"I firmly reject Israeli PM Netanyahu's opposition to the actualization of the two-state solution," he stated during a press conference, which was followed online from Jakarta on Friday.

He also fiercely condemned Israel's attack on a refugee camp in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, which claimed lives and left dozens of innocent civilians injured.

"Israel has committed too many violations of international law," he stressed.

He said he had received a report from Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, who attended the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) open debate on Gaza issues in New York, the United States.

During the debate, Marsudi conveyed Indonesia's strong rejection of Netanyahu's statement.

"Prior to Minister Marsudi's departure for New York, I asked her to continue to echo Indonesia's firm voice in supporting Palestinians' struggle for independence," Widodo said.

He further emphasized that Indonesia will never allow Israeli vessels to enter its waters.

"I would like to once again affirm that no ports in Indonesia will accommodate Israel's interests," he reiterated.

Earlier on Sunday (January 21, 2024), Netanyahu released a video in which he rejected a US call for creating post-war scenarios that involve measures for establishing a Palestinian state.

He stated that the establishment of an independent state of Palestine would threaten the existence of Israel.

Netanyahu's statement sparked condemnation from a number of parties, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who said that Israel's opposition to Palestinian statehood is unacceptable.

He also emphasized that all parties must respect and recognize the self-determination right of the Palestinian nation.
