"Decarbonization is an opportunity for Indonesia to build a sustainable green economy and create new jobs," Moeldoko stated while receiving the Association of Carbon Emission Experts Indonesia (ACEXI) in Jakarta on Monday.
The World Bank's report "Indonesia's Low-Carbon Development Pathway" in 2022 states that decarbonization can generate economic benefits estimated to be worth Rp7,000 trillion (approximately US$447.64 billion) by 2060 through increased income, new job creation, and reduced health costs.
Moeldoko admitted that it is not easy to build public awareness of the importance of decarbonization, as the scope is so broad.
Therefore, he expressed hope that ACEXI, as an organization that houses carbon emission experts, could serve as a strategic partner and a bridge for the government in educating the public, especially economic actors that will be directly involved in the decarbonization process in Indonesia.
"We recommend that the efforts be clearly defined in a practical and actionable short-term work plan," he remarked.
On that occasion, the KSP chief emphasized that Indonesia's development policies are oriented towards the green economy.
Moeldoko stated that this is evidenced by the various policies on restoring damaged land, preventing further deforestation, improving land mapping, and accelerating the development of a battery-based electric vehicle ecosystem.
"The president has given a mandate to maximize the carbon credit potential in Indonesia. KSP is also acting on this matter by forming the Team for the Acceleration of the Carbon Trading Implementation," Moeldoko remarked.
