As per his statement here on Saturday, Asy'ari explained that compensations for ad-hoc electoral organizers, classified as work accident benefits, have KPU Regulation No. 8 of 2022 as its legal basis and KPU Decision No. 59 of 2023 that regulates its mechanism.
The compensation amount is based on Finance Minister's Circular No. S-647/MK.02/2022, he remarked.
"The compensation amount is Rp36 million (US$2,307.4) and Rp10 million (US$647.9) funeral cost (for each person)," the agency head noted.
The KPU recorded a total of 3,909 cases of electoral organizers at the local level falling ill during or after performing their duty of managing polling stations and performing preliminary vote tabulation on February 14-15, 2024.
Most cases were reported from West Java, with 1,995 officers, followed by South Sulawesi, with 289 officers, and Central Java, with 265 officers.
Meanwhile, the agency also recorded 35 electoral organizers, including nine local security officers, who died on duty as of Friday (February 16) at 6 p.m. Jakarta time (UTC +7). The deaths were reported from 16 provinces nationwide.
Most deaths were reported from Central Java and East Java, each with seven deaths, followed by six deaths in West Java, and two deaths each in Jakarta and South Sulawesi.
More than 204 million Indonesian voters cast their ballot on February 14 to elect the president, vice president, as well as members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and regional legislatures (DPRD) at the provincial, city, and district levels.
Three candidate pairs are vying for the national leadership in this year's election: Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as pair number one; Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, pair number two; and Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD, pair number three.
