Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno extended his support for the plan to hold the Indonesian Street Food Festival on March 16-17, 2024, at Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne, Australia.

In a written statement received from his office in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 21), he noted that the culinary festival is in line with the government's determination to introduce Indonesian cuisine to the world.

"This event aligns with the Indonesia Spice Up the World Program devised by President Joko Widodo to promote Indonesian food and spices. The program is expected to help Indonesian restaurants promote their products abroad," he pointed out.

He made the statement while meeting with members of the Indonesian Culinary Association of Victoria (ICAV), the initiator of the street food festival, in Melbourne on Tuesday (February 20).

To organize the Indonesian Street Food Festival, ICAV will work along with the organizers of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2024 that wield a good reputation in promoting Victoria's dishes to a broader population.

According to the plan, the Indonesian Street Food Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time. The festival will involve around 12 food vendors offering various typical foods from Indonesia.

Uno expressed hope that by collaborating with several parties, ICAV will be successful in organizing the culinary festival that can be seen as an instrument of Indonesian gastrodiplomacy.

During his visit to Melbourne, the minister had the opportunity to visit some Indonesian restaurants along Lygon Street.

He then commended the existence of the restaurants, saying that such establishments can help the government promote Indonesia's appeal in the tourism and creative economy sectors through authentic food and beverages.
