Tjahjanto's meeting with Mahfud at the latter's residence in South Jakarta was his second agenda on his first working day as coordinating minister on Thursday after meeting Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Chairperson Yahya Cholil Staquf.
"Mahfud has given me many instructions and overview, and now, I should follow up on all ongoing and unresolved issues in the ministry," Tjahjanto told the press after he met with Mahfud.
The newly inaugurated minister arrived at 11:08 a.m. Jakarta time (UTC +7) and was welcomed by Mahfud who awaited his arrival at the porch of his home. The closed-door meeting lasted for 50 minutes.
Tjahjanto commended his predecessor for providing detailed minutes about various issues in the ministry during the meeting. He also expressed hope that Mahfud's assistance would help him fulfill his duties in the ministry.
Meanwhile, Mahfud said that he provided no suggestions or instructions to his successor while adding that all information given to Tjahjanto concerned solely substantial issues.
"I understand that Mr Tjahjanto is capable of (fulfilling) his new duty. I give only explanations on the issue substance but not direct instruction. (I believe) he will work in a more agile manner than me after the issue substance has been addressed," the former minister stated.
While not detailing the substantial issues to the press, Tjahjanto and Mahfud highlighted the Bank Indonesia liquidity aid (BLBI) task force, non-judicial resolution of past human rights violations, and the Constitutional Court Bill among the issues discussed at the meeting.
After concluding the meeting with Mahfud, Tjahjanto continued his first day on the job by attending internal meeting sessions with ministry officials. He is scheduled to depart for a working visit to Yogyakarta on Friday (February 23).
Tjahjanto was inducted as the Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at a ceremony in the State Palace on Wednesday (February 21).
He will serve during Jokowi's remaining eight months at the helm before the new president takes over on October 20, 2024.
