"I appreciate New Zealand's support to the implementation of ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific," Amin stated during his courtesy visit to Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters at the New Zealand Parliament Building Complex here on Wednesday local time.
Amin said the support reflects the two countries' commitment to realizing a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific is established to emphasize ASEAN's role in maintaining peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region that includes Asia-Pacific and the Indian Ocean, he remarked.
The outlook prioritizes a dialogue approach and open, inclusive cooperation in aspects prioritized by the organization, namely maritime, economy, and connectivity, as well as meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Amin underscored the importance of New Zealand's support in Indonesia's efforts to expand its influence in the Pacific region through the Pacific Islands Forum.
As an integral part of the Pacific region, the vice president said, Indonesia and New Zealand share the same challenges and interests in maintaining regional stability.
"The trilateral cooperation between Indonesia, New Zealand, and one other Pacific country should be realized, especially in the economic and development aspect," he pointed out.
During the meeting with Peters, apart from discussing Indonesia's role in the Pacific region, Amin also offered to foster comprehensive cooperation with New Zealand to enhance the implementation of cooperation, especially in the economic and development aspects.
The vice president also commended New Zealand's Christchurch Call as an initiative to bring together countries and technology companies to combat the promotion of radical extremism and terrorism online.
Christchurch Call is a global initiative launched in response to the terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019, which killed 51 people, including an Indonesian citizen.
However, Amin highlighted the need to involve religious moderate groups through interfaith dialogue in enforcing the initiative.
