Ulemas from several Palestine-supporting Muslim-majority countries, such as Algeria, Malaysia, Egypt, Sudan, and Turkey, praised Indonesia during their visit to the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) office here, on Friday (March 1).
"Their presence was to observe how Indonesia is unwaveringly supportive of the Palestinian independence," MUI Secretary General Amirsyah Tambunan noted as per a statement received on Saturday.
He remarked that the Muslim clerics expressed their gratitude and support to Indonesia for its leading role in international diplomacy and advocacy for Palestinian independence.
Indonesia, so far, has presented moral and material support for the Palestinian people in various forms, he noted.
The Indonesian Ulema Council, on November 2023, had also organized a solidarity rally and fundraising for the Palestinian cause involving millions of sympathetic Indonesian Muslims, the secretary general stated.
"International ulemas are supportive of the roles played by Indonesia, especially to provide humanitarian, food, and medical assistance, to help the Palestinian people who are suffering right now," Tambunan remarked.
He said Muslim clerics believed that Indonesia plays a leading role in realizing independence for the Palestinian people. Indonesia also consistently rallied support from other countries for the Palestinian cause, he added.
"They conveyed their gratitude to the Indonesian government since they believed that Indonesia, especially Foreign Minister (Retno Marsudi), had played their role in the international level (for the Palestinian cause)," the secretary general remarked.
