Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pahala Nugraha Mansury pushed for the continued solidification of the special strategic partnership fostered between Indonesia and South Korea to explore more mutually beneficial cooperation schemes.

As per a statement issued by the Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry here on Thursday, Mansury conveyed the encouragement while meeting with South Korean First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Hong Kyun at the 2nd Vice Ministers' Strategic Dialogue in Seoul on Wednesday (Mar 13).

The meeting affirms the importance of continuing various bilateral mechanisms, such as the ministerial Joint Commission Meeting, strategic dialogues, High-level Dialogue on Investment, and Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation to open more opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, the two vice ministers agreed to optimize the implementation of the Indonesia-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership and further expand bilateral cooperation to cover matters related to the electric vehicle ecosystem, energy transition, infrastructure, health, critical mineral supply chain, manpower, and maritime affairs.

Furthermore, the two diplomats reaffirmed their countries' commitment to strengthening partnerships within the frameworks of ASEAN-South Korea, MIKTA, APEC, and G20.

The meeting also resulted in Indonesia and South Korea's agreements on supporting one another in membership applications in multilateral forums and exchanging insights on crucial and relevant issues, such as those related to Palestine, Myanmar, and the Korean Peninsula.

Vice Minister Kim expressed his government's willingness to support Indonesia in its path to becoming a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Wednesday's meeting was a follow-up to the 1st Indonesia-South Korea Vice Ministers' Strategic Dialogue held in 2017 in Jakarta that discussed various agreements reached at the Joint Commission Meeting between foreign affairs ministers of the two countries.
