The trauma healing activities targeted adults and children at several evacuation posts, the National Police chief's assistant for human resources, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo, said. His statement was conveyed by the head of community psychological services at Polri, Police Commissioner Astiadi, here on Saturday.
"The hope is that it can provide comfort (to) and support the mental health (of evacuees) so that they can live their lives better," Astiadi said while reviewing trauma healing activities at an evacuation post at Graha Mustika Building, Kudus.
He expressed the hope that after the floodwaters recede fully, residents could return to normal activities.
The trauma healing activities provided to children included singing, playing, riddles, and giving gifts. For adults, Polri provided relaxation services, mindful activities, individual counseling, and group counseling for women at evacuation locations.
He affirmed that Polri's presence is a concrete step to provide support to residents affected by disasters, especially children who require special attention to deal with the resulting psychological impact.
"We also hope that we can encourage residents to carry out various activities and not be trapped in the flood disaster conditions," he said.
Besides trauma healing services, Polri also provided health checks, free health treatment, and an assistance package comprising 2 tons of rice, 100 liters of cooking oil, 200 boxes of mineral water, 200 boxes of instant noodles, 250 boxes of diapers, and 300 packages of school equipment.
Elok, one of the evacuees housed at the Graha Mustika Building, expressed her gratitude for the assistance, including the trauma healing services.
She said that she and her family cannot return home yet as it is still flooded.
