Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta government promised that the cheap staple food market will be held again after the Eid holidays to maintain food availability in Jakarta.

"The second or third day after the long Eid holidays, we will have the cheap staple food event again, but this is not social assistance," Acting Governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, told reporters when reviewing the cheap market in Tanjung Priok on Saturday.

"This is the last day for the cheap market before the long public holidays," he remarked.

Hartono expressed belief that the event where people can purchase affordable basic necessities would help guarantee food availability in the community.

A local resident named Wati said that the essential commodity market really helped meet her needs.

"For us who often cook, I hope that the cheap essential commodity event like this can be held once a month," she remarked.

At the event, around 1,500 staple packages were prepared by city-owned market operator Pasar Jaya and slaughterhouse Dharma Jaya.

The groceries sold also varied, including chili and beef.
