The one-way traffic scheme was enforced starting at around 12:30 p.m. local time, by opening both lanes for vehicles driving from Puncak towards the Bogor area.
"So we will wait first to let the vehicles reach 'below' (Bogor) first. Previously, from 11:30 a.m. we have already closed the lane from there to prepare the (one-way scheme)," Cianjur Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner Anjar Maulana said when met in the Puncak area.
With the one-way system, the vehicles coming from Bogor or from Jakarta could no longer drive to Puncak, especially four-wheeled vehicles.
Motorcycles were still allowed to drive towards Puncak but only through the side of the road.
After the traffic policy was implemented, the flow from the Cianjur direction experienced traffic congestion for about 20 minutes because cars were to fill both lanes, but not for long, the traffic ran smoothly again.
Earlier, the Bogor Police had implemented the one-way policy from Jakarta to Puncak. The system was implemented from around 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. local time.
On Saturday or Eid D+2, the one-way system for the return flow from Puncak to Jakarta was implemented for 11 hours, or from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. local time. This system was used to reduce the density of both vehicles returning to the city and tourist flow.
The West Java Regional Police stated that the Puncak tourist route from Bogor to Cianjur during the Eid holiday was not only crossed by tourists, but also the general public.
