Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run railway company PT KAI unveiled that the on-time performance (OTP) of long-distance trains' departure reached 99.6 percent during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr exodus period recorded from March 31 to April 13, 2024.

Meanwhile, the OTP of local trains' departure reached 99.3 percent in the same period, Executive Vice President (EVP) of KAI's Corporate Secretary Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji said in a press statement in Jakarta on Sunday.

The OTP is one of the advantages that KAI offers to the community, he said, adding that
during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday season, KAI is seeking to maintain security, comfort, and safety, as well as punctuality of train trips.

In terms of arrivals, the OTP of long-distance trains and local trains was recorded at 93.3 percent and 99.3 percent respectively.

"Punctuality is one of the advantages of rail transport as it is free from traffic congestion. Thus, it draws the interest of Eid exodus travelers," he said.

During the 2024 Eid al-Fitr transportation period which ran from March 31 to April 13, KAI operated 3,576 long-distance train trips with 2,255,291 passengers or 161,092 passengers recorded per day on average.

"The return flow started on Friday, April 12, and the peak is predicted to occur on Sunday, April 14, 2024, with 198,098 passengers recorded so far. This figure could still increase because ticket sales are still ongoing," Budiadji remarked.

KAI recorded that it sold 3,146,307 long-distance train tickets during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday season.

As per a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people were expected to join the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr this year, which fell on April 10.
