Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run railway company PT KAI recorded that it sold 3,146,307 long-distance train tickets during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr transportation period from March 31 to April 21.

Vice President of Public Relations at KAI Joni Martinus, in a statement here on Saturday, stated that the Eid exodus return flow had started on Friday (April 12) and is predicted to peak on Saturday (April 13), with 193,169 passengers recorded so far.

The number is predicted to continue to increase because the ticket sales are still open.

“The peak of the return flow will still occur on Sunday, April 14, 2024, with 183,805 passengers recorded according to data so far,” he said.

Martinus stated that for the 2024 Eid return flow period, KAI is operating 256 long-distance trains per day with 150,924 seats on average.

“During the Eid transportation period, the level of punctuality of trains was very favorable. The average punctuality of long-distance train departures reached 99.6 percent. Meanwhile, the average punctuality of long-distance train arrivals reached 93.4 percent,” he remarked.
KAI appealed to all passengers to allocate enough time to reach their departure station to avoid missing their train.

KAI also reminded its passengers that they are allowed to bring baggage without levy with a maximum weight of 20 kg and a maximum volume of 100 dm3 with maximum dimensions of 70 x 48 x 30 cm and consisting of a maximum of four items of baggage.

For the 2024 Eid al-Fitr transportation period, some of the favorite trains are Airlangga Train with the Pasar Senen-Surabaya Pasar Turi route, Pasundan Train with the Kiaracondong-Surabaya Gubeng route, and Matarmaja Train with the Pasar Senen-Malang route.

As per a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people were expected to join the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid al-Fitr this year, which fell on April 10.
