Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat pressed for comprehensive handling of child pornography through the formation of a task force.

The task force, formed by involving ministries and institutions, is deemed able to accelerate the protection of every citizen against the impact of pornography.

“The rise in child pornography cases must be immediately handled with massive and measurable steps to create a comprehensive protection system for the nation's future generations,” she noted in an MPR statement received here on Saturday.

Based on data from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), there were more than five million findings of content related to child pornography in Indonesia.

Moerdijat said the data showed that Indonesia is ranked fourth in the world and second-highest in Southeast Asia or ASEAN for the number of child pornography cases.

According to the MPR deputy speaker, the support of all parties is needed in the government's efforts to handle child pornography cases, such as in prevention, handling, law enforcement, and the aftermath.

She also noted that the involvement of several ministries and institutions in handling child pornography cases required sound cross-sectoral synergy.

The MPR deputy speaker expressed hope that the strong commitment of stakeholders at the central and regional levels in handling cases of child pornography would be realized.

She highlighted that the nation’s future depends on the quality of its human resources and expressed hope that the development process of the nation’s children to become competitive generations would run as expected.

She further underscored the need for all parties to understand the criticality of prioritizing various efforts to boost human resources’ quality to continue to uphold the values inherited by the nation’s predecessors as well as to create a just and prosperous society.
