Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah, on the occasion of International Workers' Day on May 1, encouraged workers to continue to improve their skills and competencies to face workforce-related challenges in future.

Fauziyah explained that for this year's International Workers' Day, her ministry organized a commemoration agenda themed, "MayDay 2024: Work Together to Realise Competent Workers," and the tagline "MayDay is Skilled (Workers') Day."

"It comes from our collective aspiration that improving competencies is one solution in facing Industry 4.0 challenges. One thing that we should constantly do is to improve our human resources' quality," Fauziyah stated at the Workers' Day commemoration event here on Wednesday.

She said the government targets to improve the quality of Indonesia's human resources to be better than those of the neighbouring countries.

After emerging as the country with the best quality of human resources at the ASEAN level, Indonesia should continue to compete at the Asian and global level, she emphasized.

The minister stated that this aims to ensure that Indonesia would achieve goals in the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

Fauziyah remarked that the government has devised various policies to improve workers' competencies, either by providing new skills or enhancing existing skills.

However, she highlighted that improving workers' competencies requires contributions from all workforce stakeholders.

"I am tirelessly reminding and encouraging all of us to commit (to improving workforce quality), not only for the workers but also for the employers," Fauziyah stated.

She affirmed that companies should play their role in improving the quality of national human resources for their current and prospective employees and provide internship programs for students.

The minister also encouraged the workers' union and the workers personally to support digital innovation and bolster the quality of human resources in Indonesia.
