"The three archives are the Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol manuscript, Indarung Semen Padang archives, and 1887–-1986 Indonesian Sugar Research Institute archives," national manuscript management task force head at the National Library of Indonesia, Aditia Gunawan, said here on Wednesday.
He informed that the inclusion of the Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol manuscript was proposed jointly by the National Library and the West Sumatra provincial authority, while the Indarung Semen Padang archives were proposed by cement company PT Semen Padang.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Sugar Research Institute archives were proposed by the East Java Library and Archive Office and the Indonesia Sugar Research Agency.
"Indonesia proposed one manuscript and two archives. Praise be to God, the three proposed archives were accepted as the Memory of the World for Asia and Pacific's newest entries," he added.
Gunawan said that the three archives were deemed to have significance not only at the national, but also global level.
He highlighted that the Tambo Tuanku Imam Bonjol manuscript, which describes in detail the Padri War (1803–1837) in West Sumatra between the Minangkabau forces led by national hero Tuanku Imam Bonjol and the Dutch, also teaches about peace and reconciliation to its readers.
"The manuscript is also important because it is the only one in the world. Hence, it is rare and special," Gunawan explained.
Responding to the positive outcome, the National Library has urged all parties to collaborate in preserving the cultural heritage, which has been registered and recognized by an international organization, he said.
Stakeholders should also support research and raise public awareness about the recently acknowledged archives, the national library official added.
The three Indonesian archives are among the 20 inducted to the Memory of the World for Asia and Pacific this year.
The other entries are from Australia and Tuvalu, Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
