“As well as improving the quality of the museum in serving the community in accordance with the museum’s function as an education and tourism facility,” she added.
Kusumastuti remarked that the museum renovation concept was adapted to the harmony of cultural heritage buildings that maintain military historical values in Indonesia.
This concept is expected to offer visitors a sense of comfort with good service and enable them to obtain necessary information.
Renovation of the museum is under the responsibility of the West Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), Directorate General of Human Settlements of the ministry, with implementing contractors PT Kadita Berseri and CV Prisma Karya Nusantara as the supervising consultants.
The museum renovation includes structural, architectural to mechanical and electrical work.
The initial building of the museum was a state house that was registered as a Type C Cultural Heritage Building, so restoration of the building can be changed or built anew.
However, the changes must be adjusted to the pattern of the surrounding buildings or follow the original shape of the surrounding environment.
The museum renovation work was carried out using a design and build mechanism, with focus on optimizing the exhibition space. The museum renovation project area is around 1990 square meters, with a composition of land that can be used for buildings or Basic Building Coefficient of 60 percent and 40 percent of the land used for green open space or Basic Green Coefficient.
In accordance with the site plan, the museum layout comprises a reception room, exhibition space, indoor cafe and outdoor cafe, education office, corridor, toilet, prayer room, and combat vehicle showcase.
The museum's exhibition space is filled with collections of the Indonesian Army Cavalry Unit relating to history, combat vehicles, various types of weapons, equipment, clothing, and other artifacts related to the evolution of the cavalry in a military context.
Construction work for the renovation of the museum was carried out for 96 days from September 27, 2023, and was completed in December 2023.
