Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) and representatives of related ministries in the Asia-Pacific region reaffirmed their commitment to solidifying women's economies through trade activities.

In a statement on Thursday, the PPPA Ministry noted that Indonesia took part in the Joint Meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministers Responsible for Women and Ministers Responsible for Trade held in Arequipa, Peru, on May 17.

The meeting concluded with the declaration of a ministerial joint statement that accentuates APEC ministers' support for the advancement of women's participation and leadership in regional and global trade.

Through the joint statement, the ministers also acknowledge that women's access to markets, technology, capital and assets, skills, and capacity development will contribute to the achievement of inclusive and sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region.

Furthermore, the ministers will continue taking measures to create a conducive ecosystem that will enable more women to integrate themselves into regional and global trade along with promoting capacity-building activities to assist women in enhancing their resilience and competitiveness.

During the meeting, the Indonesian delegation, led by Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, affirmed that advancing the empowerment of women's economies should not stop short of identifying issues being faced by women.

Indonesia believes that APEC countries should dare to determine national priorities to boost women's participation in economic affairs.

"Cooperation and collaboration within APEC must explicitly target women, guiding them to face a wide range of inequality-related challenges while creating opportunities to enhance their participation in the economy," Hasan noted.

Furthermore, the Indonesian delegation also pushed APEC to provide technical assistance to stimulate economies in the region and place a focus on women's empowerment and participation in the economy.
