Collaboration with the National Library can be carried out through various activities, one of which targets cultural exchange between both nations through collection exhibitions and seminars
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Library of the Republic of Indonesia encourages the implementation of the Indonesian Language Teaching Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) in collaboration with the V.V. Mayakovsky Central City Public Library in St. Petersburg.

Based on a press release obtained by ANTARA, Jakarta, Thursday evening (July 5), cooperation between libraries of the two countries was carried out through the signing of a memorandum of mutual understanding (MSP) on Tuesday (July 2).

The signing was carried out by the acting head of the National Library E. Aminudin Aziz and the Head of V.V. Mayakovsky Central City Public Library Chalova Zoya Vasiljevna.

The National Library's acting head stated that the signing of the MSP was part of a working visit by the National Library delegation to the Russian Federation to develop international cooperation networks.

Aziz explained that the National Library would collaborate with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Moscow to implement cooperative activities at the V.V. Mayakovsky Central City Public Library.

The activity encouraged in this collaboration is the BIPA.

He explained that this activity could also be combined with the exhibitions of literary works, manuscripts, and other library materials from Indonesia.

Meanwhile, a librarian at the V.V. Mayakovsky Central City Public Library, Svetlana Gorokhova, also responsible for international cooperation, welcomed the programs.

She remarked that collaboration with the National Library can be carried out through various activities, one of which targets cultural exchange between both nations through collection exhibitions and seminars. "Collaboration can also be carried out in the form of staff exchanges to develop expertise and share knowledge," she explained.

V.V. Mayakovsky Central City Public Library is the main public library of the City of St. Petersburg. The library holds two million books and a thousand people visit it daily.

Meanwhile, the National Library delegation also received a special invitation to visit the museum library at the St. Petersburg City Government Office, St. Petersburg.

The National Library appreciates the invitation and welcome extended by the local city government and considers it to be a positive effort to open up other opportunities for inter-state cooperation in the fields of culture and literature between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Head of the International Cooperation Section of the City Government of St. Petersburg Igor V. Bodnarchuk lauded the role of libraries in this collaboration.

He remarked that the National Library was the first party to initiate collaboration.

"We are also working with (other) Southeast Asian countries, Vietnam and Myanmar," he stated.
