Chairperson of the North Sumatra PON Grand Committee, Afifi Lubis, said that the program is part of preparations to welcome the 21st PON, and aims to beautify the host region.
"This program not only aims to beautify the region, but also to promote the upcoming PON event," he added here on Thursday.
He explained that the program aims to introduce the local culture and beauty to participants and tourists attending the national sports event.
As part of the program, he said, his side will decorate various parts of the city and regions hosting the 2024 PON.
The decorations will include pictograms, mascot images, logos, and taglines of the 21st PON, which will be held from September 8–20, 2024.
"These decorative elements will be installed at certain points. Apart from Medan city, this program will also be implemented in Deli Serdang district and all regions that host the 2024 PON in North Sumatra," he said.
He expressed the hope that through the program, public enthusiasm in welcoming the national sports event would increase and the event would leave a good impression on participants.
"This program is expected to have a positive impact on the image and development of North Sumatra as the host of Indonesia's largest sports event," he said.
His side is also seeking to involve the community as volunteers to make the quadrennial sports event a success.
Lubis informed that the committee will group the volunteers into three categories: green, blue, and yellow.
"We have opened registration for people who want to become volunteers. The success of PON 2024 is inseparable from the role of the community," he said.
