Vice President Ma'ruf Amin will launch the 10th National Conference of the Forum of Zakat Organizations (FOZ) at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (July 16).
"The 10the FOZ National Conference will draw participation from leaders of 150 zakat (alms) agencies across Indonesia. Thus, this conference will serve as an important momentum for the national zakat movement," the vice president's spokesperson, Masduki Baidlowi, remarked.
In the Vice Presidential Secretariat's statement cited here on Monday, Baidlowi explained that the FOZ National Conference constitutes a triennial agenda during which a new chairperson of the forum is elected.
He noted that holding the upcoming conference would help Indonesia affirm its commitment to using alms as an instrument for bringing economic and social benefits to a broad population.
During Tuesday's conference, he remarked that VP Amin will also symbolically award PT Paragon Technology and Innovation for its notable contributions to the national zakat ecosystem.
The spokesperson further stated that the national event is also expected to strengthen Indonesia's position in the global zakat scene and showcase the country's success in making the most of technology to improve its management of zakat.
"With the spirit of collaboration, the 10th FOZ National Conference is hoped to become a crucial milestone in Indonesia's journey in placing zakat as an instrument for actualizing an inclusive economy for the nation," he concluded.
The FOZ was created as a foundation in 1997 by several institutions. Following the 1st National Conference held two years later, the status of FOZ was altered to an association, with Eri Sudewo serving as its chairperson.
