Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police (Polri) has expressed readiness to secure the 21st National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh and North Sumatra.

Head of the Polri Traffic Corps Inspector General Aan Suhanan stated that Polri will support the Aceh Regional Police with personnel, vehicles, and technology.

"We will support them," he said on Saturday.

According to Suhanan, the North Sumatra Regional Police has also requested additional personnel, equipment, tactical vehicles, and other resources to support the sports event.

His team has inspected two PON venues: Harapan Bangsa Stadium in Banda Aceh and North Sumatra Sports Centre in Medan. The primary focus is on traffic management around these venues.

The police have also established protocols for escorting VIP and VVIP guests, as well as contingents from all provinces.

Suhanan stated that the police will collaborate with other stakeholders to manage traffic flow and prevent congestion both inside and outside the venues.

The national sports event will take place in the two provinces from September 8 to 20. Featuring 67 sports, the event will involve more than 11,600 athletes and 5,800 officials from all 38 provinces.
