Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairperson of the Indonesia Solidarity Party (PSI), Kaesang Pangarep, described the apology delivered by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) recently as a humane gesture.

"I think it is a humane thing to offer an apology to the people of Indonesia; he will retire," Kaesang, Jokowi's youngest son, told reporters on Friday.

Kaesang said that there are no perfect human beings in the world.

"A president is also not perfect. No living thing in this world is perfect; everyone makes mistakes," he added.

Earlier, at the National Prayer event at Merdeka Palace on Thursday, Jokowi offered his apology for mistakes made during his terms in office.

He also apologized on behalf of Vice President Ma'ruf Amin in front of thousands of guests at the opening ceremony. The event was part of the activities leading up to the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

"On the first day of the Month of Independence, August, with all sincerity and humility, allow me and Mr. Ma'ruf Amin to apologize for all of the mistakes made during our duty as President and Vice President of Indonesia," Jokowi said.

He added that he is only human, and it is impossible for him and Amin to fulfill all people's hopes.

"I am not perfect, merely human," he said. "Only God is perfect."

Jokowi then invited the guests to pray together for the achievement of the country's ideals.
